The „Meta-Research and Automated Screening“ group examines ways to improve data visualisation, reporting of detailed methods and protocols, statistical analyses, and other factors that affect the rigor, reproducibility and transparency of biomedical research.

Findings from meta-research studies allow us to develop targeted interventions to make research more trustworthy and useful. The team also develops automated screening tools to detect beneficial practices, or common problems, in preprints and papers. These automated tools allow us to monitor changing practices over time across many fields, and assess the impact of interventions designed to improve rigor, reproducibility and transparency. Real-time screening initiatives share reports from screening tools with preprint authors, allowing scientists to improve their manuscripts before publication. Finally, team members deliver „hands on“ educational programs to train the next generation of scientists.
