About Prof. Jun Wang: Jun Wang is Professor of Genomics and Bioinformatics in Copenhagen University and Hong Kong University and CEO of the Bioinformatics Department of Beijing Genomics Insitute (BGI). BGI was founded by his efforts in 1999 and is is now widely recognized as one of China’s premier research facilities, committed to excellence in genome sciences. BGI currently contributes to 30–50 per cent of sequence data output for the whole world per year. A combination of its high-throughput, cost-effective genomics platform, its large data collection and storage capacity, in-depth bioinformatics analysis and databases, a core commitment to education and scientific research, has made BGI unique. Jun Wang has been leading the scientific direction and daily operation of BGI genomics and its informatics part since 2002.
