We are calling for applications for the set-up of clinical trials and pilot studies within the Clinical-Translational Sciences Platform. All members of the Platform are eligible to submit applications. The deadline for project application is on 23.03.2020.

Eligibility

All members of the Clinical-Translational Sciences Platform are eligible to apply for funding as primary submitters. All BIH/Charité/MDC scientists who dispose of independent research funding as well as participants of the BIH/Charité (Digital) Clinician Scientist Program can apply for membership here.

Project requirements

The goal of this funding pool is to initiate new studies which are based on the structures and services for clinical studies within BIH and Charité. Therefore, the use of structures of the platform, in particular of the Clinical Study Center, is mandatory.

Funding for preparation of clinical trial applications

In 2020, a budget of up to 300.000 € will be allocated for the conductance of pilot studies and the preparation of clinical trial applications.

The maximum amount that may be applied for per application is 50.000 €. These funds must be used until the end of 2020. The application should include an informative description of the planned study and indicate the application of funds.

The funds should be used for

  • a thorough preparation of all study documentation, e. g. ethics committee and BfArM approval or
  • for a pilot study (proof-of-concept).

Use of technology providers, e.g. the Clinical Study Center, must also be budgeted. In addition, a coordinating physician can be paid for a limited time frame (e.g. 4 months) in the preparatory phase.

Essential evaluation criteria include:

  • Pilot studies to prepare future clinical studies or direct preparation of clinical studies that are intended to be submitted to the BfArM
  • use of services of the Clinical Study Center
  • consent and cost estimate of involved BIH technology providers
  • feasibility of trial conduct

Selection procedure

Projects will be selected in a single-stage evaluation by a decision board composed of at least five impartial representatives from the BIH Research Platform and Focus Area steering committees. All steering committee members of the Clinical-Translational Sciences Platform who do not submit a proposal are included in the board and are additionally joined by at least three steering committee members of other Platforms or Focus Areas. Applications supporting the mission of the BIH by adressing systems medicine, translation and innovation will be prioritized.

Applications need to be submitted via the online application portal using the application form.
