A leading expert on migration and health

Migration & Health is not only the name of a research group Theda Borde co-founded, the two terms also sum up the main areas of study of the former rector of the Alice Salomon University of Applied Sciences in Berlin (ASH Berlin).

After completing her Abitur, she began studying history, English philology and educational science in Münster before going on to study political science and American studies in Berlin. With a political science degree in hand, she managed an international education and counseling center for immigrant women in Berlin for eleven years, while at the same time studying health sciences at Freie Universität Berlin. In 2002 she received her doctorate in public health/health sciences from Technische Universität Berlin.

As a research associate, Borde worked on various projects at the intersection of migration and health sciences at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin until 2004. She then became a professor at ASH Berlin, which she led as rector from 2010 to 2014.
