Dagmar Kainmüller has been recruited to the BIH on a junior group leader position in bioinformatics and will start with her team in Berlin in the next few months. Her work is focused on leveraging prior knowledge about the shape of objects of interest for the automated analysis of biomedical image data. As a PhD student at the Zuse-Institute Berlin and the University of Luebeck, Germany, Dagmar Kainmüller studied shape models for the automated segmentation of organs in clinical CT and MRI data. Afterwards she was an ELBE postdoc in Gene Myers’s lab at the MPI-CBG in Dresden, where she developed combinatorial and machine learning approaches that exploit shape priors for bioimage segmentation. Dagmar joined Janelia in 2016 to develop computational methods for the automated analysis of fly brain imagery.
