Knut Mai receives call for a W2 professorship for diabetic development and therapy
Knut Mai, coordinator of the Clinical Research Unit (CRU) of the Berlin Institute of Health (BIH) has held professorship for diabetic development and therapy at the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin since January 1, 2017. The W2 professorship is funded by the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft e. V.
Knut Mai focuses on the analysis of the interaction of metabolic processes and endocrinology. In the context of translationally designed clinical intervention studies, he examines mainly metabolic and endocrinological processes, which are based on the regulation of insulin sensitivity and body weight. With the use of various innovative methods of investigation in these human studies, he intends to provide a deeper insight into the interplay of skeletal muscle tissue and adipose tissue with regard to substrate utilization and further metabolic changes. The aim of the professorship is to gain a better understanding of the interaction of endocrine, metabolic and nutritive factors in the pathogenesis of diseases such as diabetes mellitus and its consequences.
