Human pluripotent stem cells (hPSC), and in particular induced PSC (hiPSC), are in the focus of BIH research. This includes generation and differentiation, but also establishment of disease models etc. All of these activities require a profound knowledge and hands-on expertise of maintaining and manipulating hPSCs in tissue culture.
The processes involved in these aspects of hPSC handling in tissue culture are labor intensive and distinct from that of other mammalian cell cultures. The BIH Stem Cell Core facility is organizing regular training on these methodologies.
This initial training course focuses on the handling and maintenance as a prerequisite for any kind of hiPSC research.
During this basic training, lectures and practical experience will cover methodology and major techniques used for working with hiPSCs with a focus on techniques required to maintain, preserve and characterize these cells.

Who should attend this course?
The training is intended for researchers and technicians who are planning projects using human iPSCs and/or will start working with iPSCs in the near future.
Each workshop is limited to six attendees to provide a comfortable learning experience and allow for personalized interactions between the trainers and attendees.
Previous hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture, familiarity with basic molecular and cell biology principles and methods are mandatory. The course is open to BIH, Charité and MDC investigators.
