4.5 million EUR for Humboldt Research Fellowships at the Berlin Institute of Health

In future, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation will award fellowships in collaboration with the Charité Foundation to finance research stays at the Berlin Institute of Health. The Charité Foundation will allocate approximately 4.5 million EUR in funding from the Private Excellence Initiative Johanna Quandt for this. Up to 50 fellowships can be financed in the coming eight years as a result. Since 2013, the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine and the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin have bundled their complementary research expertise in the areas of translational research and systemic medicine at the Berlin Institute of Health. Humboldt Fellows at the Berlin Institute of Health will receive the Humboldt Foundation’s sponsorship package and additionally have the opportunity to participate in activities organised by the Charité Foundation and the Institute and to attend workshops for young leaders in the research field. The collaboration between the two foundations aims to recruit more excellent researchers for the Berlin Institute of Health. Through their collaboration with the Humboldt Foundation, the Charité Foundation and the Berlin Institute of Health will have access to outstanding, internationally-mobile researchers and can continue cultivating these ties after the individual fellowship has ended. Thanks to the financial assistance being provided the Charité Foundation, the Humboldt Foundation will be able to award more fellowships and, by doing so, accommodate the growing number of exceptional applications.
