Simone Spuler is head of the Institute for Muscle Sciences and University Outpatient Clinic for Muscle Disorders, located at the Experimental and Clinical Research Center (ECRC) in Berlin-Buch. After visiting the medical school in Würzburg, Harvard and Baltimore she won a DFG research stipend to go to the Laboratory of Mucosal Immunology at the University of California, San Diego, and later spent two years as a clinical fellow at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. She completed her professional qualification (Habilitation) in 1995. Since 2008 she is Professor in the Department of Biology, Chemistry, Pharmacy at Freie Universität Berlin. Her research focuses on the understanding of cell processes in muscular dystrophy, in muscle regeneration and aging, and, in particular, in developing novel therapies.
