The Israel Innovation Authority (IIA) supports international cooperation of Israeli start-ups with research partners from all over the world. In September 2019, Charité and the Berlin Institute of Health and the IIA signed a Memorandum of Understanding to foster international cooperation and translational research. Whilst similar partnerships exist in the USA and Canada, this is the first direct partnership of the IIA with a European university hospital or healthcare institute. It outlines a program aiming to co-develop, test and pilot impactful technologies, products, services and devices within the Charité supported by the BIH. As such, the pilot process plans to provide Israeli companies with streamlined access to Charité hospital patients, scientists and data in order to jointly work towards addressing unmet medical needs and ultimately the improvement of patient care. In other words, this partnership will give true substance to the long revered translational slogan “from bench to bedside”.
Israel has been called ‘start-up nation’ for their high potential of innovation and the largest number of start-ups per capita worldwide. Israel, ranked 4th among 17 countries in a recent study by the Bertelsmann Stiftung investigating digital strategies, technical readiness and data use in the health system, has become a leading force in the international digital health scene.
The idea of this project is, to combine clinical expertise of the Charité and BIH together with Israel’s innovative entrepreneurial spirit to implement advances in mobile health / digital health into clinical practice through translational research. In this process, we are looking for clinical researchers, interested in conducting a clinical study as Principal Investigator in cooperation with an Israeli start-up at the Charité. Also already established cooperation of Israeli companies and Charité clinical researchers are eligible for project application at the IIA.
As a Charité / BIH-scientist, this will give you the chance to set up a study and receive support in study start-up and conductance by the Clinical Study Center at BIH.
