From research to clinical practice

The BCRT is an internationally recognized center with a strong interdisciplinary program with basic research, clinical research areas and enabling technologies being closely linked within an innovative translational infrastructure (business development, regulatory affairs, health economy).

About us

The BCRT was founded in 2006 as an alliance between the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, one of Europe's largest university clinics, and the Helmholtz Association, Germany's largest research association. A team of over 250 employees- including physicians, scientists, engineers, experts in translational medicine, PhD students and technical staff - are conducting research at the BCRT's two sites: at the Cranach building on the Virchow Clinic Campus of the Charité, with its close links to the BCRT partner clinics, and at the Teltow Campus of the Helmholtz Centre Geesthacht, the Centre for Biomaterial Development.

Faculty

The BCRT Faculty is elegible to elect the BCRT steering Committee. BCRT faculty members are automatically members of the BIH Research Focus Advanced Therapies and so part of the BIH faculty.

External Science Council (ESCO)

The external science council (ESCO) discusses all scientific matters with the steering committee. One important task is to bring research results quickly and safely into clinical application. Therefore, the council evaluates our research projects.

Moreover, the council evaluates our scientific work on a regular basis. Well-known personalities who have a high profile in science and/or industry and are from outside the BCRT are eligible as members of the external science council. The coucnil consists of at least three members up to a maximum of eleven members. The external science council will inform BCRT's partners in writing about its meetings.
