Advanced Animal Models

Our goal is pre-clinical research that works with models that replicate the disease under investigation as realistically as possible and are thus close to the patient. This enables faster translation of new diagnostics and therapies from basic research to patient application.  Therefore, the models are developed as close to the clinic as possible, both in terms of the research question and taking into account the care established in the clinic. In addition, the models are continuously compared to patient samples. In this way, we enable pre-clinical research that optimally supports the translation from the idea to the clinical trial and, in the long run, can contribute to reducing the number of animal experiments necessary for clinical developments.

Animal models in preclinical research

In pre-clinical research, studies are often conducted with cells or tissues derived from humans or animals. However, the transferability of the results from such in vitro studies, which take place outside a living organism, has its limits. Therefore, they are usually followed by so-called in vivo studies: Here, the studies are carried out using living organisms, i.e. directly on animals or humans. Animals used for research are called animal models. Studies on animal models belong to preclinical research. Studies on humans belong to clinical research.
