This workshop is a call to action for professionals to engage in an international co-creation process to develop a whitepaper for a feasible action plan template that will be used to equip research institutions with knowledge and strategies to implement changes in their respective research assessment schemes and organizational procedures.

The event is organized by members of the CoARA Working Group on Supporting the alignment of research assessment systems with CoARA in biomedical disciplines through administrative reforms and governance (WG SAGA):

  • Dr. Miriam Kip, SAGA chair, Berlin Institute of Health at Charité, Germany
  • Dr. Iris Uribesalgo, co-chair, EU-LIFE, Europe
  • Dr. Jess Rohmann, Institute for Public Health Charité, Germany
  • Dr. Marie Witt, Max Delbrück Center, Germany
  • Prof. Antonio Paoli, M.D., University of Padova, Italy
  • Dr. Paula Samsó, Institut d'Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS), Spain
  • Dr. Tracey Weissgerber, Berlin Institute of Health at Charité, Germany

The event will be held online on 16-17 May 2024. It is planned as an asynchronous event, so participants are welcome to select which session(s) to join depending on their availability, interests, and professional experience.

The first day, the discussion will focus on project and institutional assessment, and the second day on hiring, retention, and promotion of staff. With time for input talks, open discussions and collaborative writing time, the topics of the sessions will include:

  • Intramural project funding
  • Institutional assessment and monitoring
  • The role of quantitative indicators for the assessment of individual researchers
  • Assessment criteria and good practices for hiring, retention and promotion

Have a look here for the detailled programme.

What is the idea behind a virtual brainstorm?

We chose this specific format for its flexibility, allowing participating to engage in selected real-time discussions, as well as contribute asynchronously to accommodate different schedules and commitments on the two days! We have carefully put together a comprehensive agenda including short talks from international experts to fit into everyone's schedule.

We are looking forward to your participation and the discussions!
