Systemic Perspectives in Translational Biomedicine

The group „Systemic Perspectives in Translational Biomedicine” investigates research processes in (preclinical) biomedical research. The path from an initial discovery to the patient is long and challenging. One important building block of successful translation is the generation of robust evidence. At BIH and beyond, we explore how such evidence can be generated in an efficient manner. In particular, we are interested what evidence is needed to enable decisions to progress through a translational research trajectory to ultimately create patient benefit. For this, we draw on transdisciplinary approaches from biostatistics, experimental design, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, quality management, and education. Through this, we aim to understand translation via scientific inquiry in order to contribute to a theory of translational research. At the same time, we apply this theoretical knowledge to counsel and accompany selected use cases.
