ORCHESTRA - Connecting European cohorts to increase common and effective response to SARS-CoV-2 pandemic

ORCHESTRA is a European project that started in 2020 with the aim to deliver sound scientific evidence to improve the prevention and treatment of the infections caused by SARS-CoV-2. The goal is achieved by assessing epidemiological, clinical, microbiological, and genotypic aspects of population as well as environmental and socio-economic features. 

The project builds up on existing and new large scale population cohorts in European (France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Romania, Netherlands, Portugal, Luxemburg, and Slovakia) and non-European (India, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Argentina, Brazil, Congo, and Gabon) countries, including individuals of all ages and conditions.  
The main outcome of ORCHESTRA is the creation of a new pan-European cohort of COVID-19 patients.  The tool for data collection for the new studies is REDCap. 

BIH is responsible for establishing semantic interoperability across the ORCHESTRA studies by means of international standard terminologies such as SNOMED CT, LOINC, NCIt, ATC, ICD-10.  Common data elements across the ORCHESTRA studies were identified and constitute the ORCHESTRA Core Data elements for COVID-19 (OcDeC). The project has obtained a one-year extension and will run until the end of 2024.
