Showing Europe how to handle looted art

Savoy specializes in the provenance of cultural objects, including looted art. Time magazine counted her among the 100 most influential people of 2021 for her contribution to the cultural property restitution debate.

Savoy studied German at the École normale supérieure in Fontenay, France. From 1998 to 2001 she was a research associate at Centre Marc Bloch in Berlin. At the same time she lectured at Technische Universität Berlin and Freie Universität Berlin. In 2000, she qualified as a professor in Paris. After a post as a junior professor at Technische Universität Berlin, in 2009 she was appointed professor of modern art history at the same university. Since 2016 she has also held a professorship at the Collège de France in Paris.

That same year, she was awarded the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize, which is the most important research award in Germany, and elected a member of the renowned Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Science and Humanities.
