The BIH is part of the new European project xSHARE: Expanding the European electronic health record exchange format (EEHRxF) to share and effectively use health data within the European Health Data Space (EHDS). The project has started on 1 December 2023 and will run for three years under the scientific coordination of Health Level 7 (HL7) Europe and brings together all the major European interoperability key-players. The aim is to enable citizens to share their health data according to the EEHRxF with the click of a button under the  General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The button will be available on health portals and patient apps and it will empower patients to share their data just with one click.

A central Hub will be responsible for developing format specifications across the prioritised health information domains and apply them in three traditional verticals in the health sector: continuity of care, public health and cross- borders threats and citizen participation to clinical research.

The core unit digital medicine and interoperability of Charite will contribute to the definition of the specifications and will be co-leading together with EHTEL (European Health Telematics Association) the work package focusing on public health and cross-border threats.

The project partners met in Athens in January 2024 during the Athens Digital Health Week.
