Guidelines for Safeguarding Good Research Practice

In August 2019, the German Research Foundation (DFG) published the "Guidelines for Safeguarding Good Research Practice (KODEX)". The KODEX "is intended to create a deeply rooted culture of research integrity at higher education institutions, focusing less on breaches of good scientific practice and more on the professional ethics of researchers”.

When the KODEX comes into force on 1 August 2019, all universities and non-university research institutions must implement the 19 guidelines in a legally binding manner in order to receive funding from the DFG.

The Berlin University Alliance (BUA, Partners: Humboldt University, Freie Universität, Technische Universität, Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin) welcomes the intention of the DFG to use the Code to shift the focus from preventing scientific misconduct to promoting good scientific work. The aim of the KODEX project carried out within the framework of BUA Objective 3 "Advancing Research Quality and Value" is to support the BUA in harmonizing the necessary adaptations of its statutes for Good Scientific Practice.
