BIH Diversithon November 2019
On the occasion of Berlin Science Week a day before the Future Medicine Conference 2019 we invite everyone to come together for a science editathon and diversify the world's encyclopedia!
Only 17.7% of English language biographies and 15.6% of German language biographies in Wikipedia are for women. There is also an underrepresentation of certain ethnicities and people of colour in science. Our Diversithon is looking to balance it out, but we need your help!
We invite you, whatever your gender, to join us for an exciting Wikepedia edit-a-thon in Berlin.
We all use Wikipedia, so why not help it grow and become more diverse? By participating in our event, you can contribute to and improve Wikipedia. Editing scientists’ biographies is an important part of science communication. You can share and expand your knowledge while editing, engage in discussions with other people who are interested in same topics as you and spend an inspiring afternoon with colleagues.

Speaker: Kelly Foster
Kelly Foster is a public historian specialising in oral history and community archives. She is the founding organiser of AfroCROWD UK - an initiative to encourage more people of African heritage to contribute to Wikipedia and it’s sister projects. In 2017 she was named UK Wikimedian of the Year and has delivered training for a wide range of organisations, from the Royal Academy of Arts and the British Library to local libraries and voluntary projects.

Pre-Event Instructions
No prior experience of Wikipedia editing is necessary. Just bring yourself, your enthusiasm and a laptop including the charger.
You are welcome to bring your own ideas for famous scientists to write about. In case you need some inspiration, we will also provide a list of women and ethnic minority scientists who justify a good Wikipedia entry in either English or German or both.
