Abstract

Keynote by Lina Spagert

The visibility of female scientists is a key issue in the discussion on gender equality in science and society, and yet women remain underrepresented in many fields, as various "gender gaps" reveal. The concept of ‘Doing Visibility’, which was developed in the Prof:inSicht research project, helps to better understand the underlying mechanisms in the creation of visibility and shows why women often do not have the same prerequisites for visibility as men.

About the Speaker

Lina Spagert works as scientist in the interdisciplinary project „Prof:inSicht“ at Hochschule München on the topic of visibility of women professors in universities of applied sciences. Her own PhD project in cooperation with Ludwig-Maximilians Universität München (LMU) is about „Women's visibility in science - a quantitative analysis of scientists visibility and its determining factors”. She holds a bachelor and master degree in social work and focused on mental health among students in her master’s thesis.

The keynote is part of the event "Diversithon" during the Berlin Science Week, a cooperation between the Max Delbrück Center and the Berlin Institute for Health at the Charité, organised by the equal opportunities officers of both institutions, Christiane Nolte and Karin Höhne. The keynote speech will be held in English. It is possible to attend the keynote either online or on-site.
You are also welcome to join the Diversithon to help Wikipedia grow and become more diverse. The introduction to editing and writing will be offered in both English and German.
