Abstract

BIH Scientific Symposium 2026:
“Beyond Boundaries: The Impact of Collaboration”

September 24, 2026

Research has no boundaries. Interdisciplinarity and collaboration play a key role in scientific progress. This year’s scientific symposium at the Berlin Institute of Health aims to focus specifically on these drivers of science. “Beyond Boundaries: From Impact to Collaboration” explores the effects that collaborative approaches in research may have: across disciplines, across institutions, across borders, across sectors. Where does your research cross boundaries and where is a gap that still needs to be filled? At the same time, the symposium will not only provide a space for networking but also the opportunity to learn about BIH core units, institutional activities and BIH administrative services.

The BIH Symposium is internal only.

Program

The BIH Scientific Symposium will focus on a wide variety of research at the BIH. We look forward to offering a rich program including a great set of talks, poster presentations, workshops, panel discussions, and plenty of opportunity for exchange! Please have a look at the regularly updated program here:

As last year, the organizing committee depends on your input to shape the one-day agenda and highly emphasizes the participation of early career researchers. In order to be part of the program, please have a look at the Call for Submissions and find out how to submit your contribution for an active part in the BIH Symposium.

    Talk or Poster Submission

As a research community, we are eager to see the latest projects and discoveries happening across the institute. The symposium is a fantastic opportunity for everyone to share their work, either individually or as part of a team. We strongly encourage every research group to submit at least one abstract for a poster or an oral presentation. In our selection process, we will prioritize giving every group a platform to showcase their work, with a special focus on highlighting the variety of our research and celebrating cross-group collaborations.

    Eligibility

This call for participation is open to all BIH research groups. Joint submissions between closely collaborating BIH research groups, core units or support structures at the BIH are very much encouraged, especially where a shared project or translational effort is highlighted. Importantly, all presenting authors must be early career researchers (e.g. students, doctoral candidates or postdocs), reflecting BIH’s commitment to fostering the next generation of translational scientists.

    Selection criteria

All contributions will be reviewed and selected by the organizing and scientific committee. We apply the following evaluation criteria for the selection of this year’s presentations:

    • Representative/equal contributions across all BIH sections
    • Abstracts led by early-career researchers (students, PhD candidates, and postdoctoral researchers) are encouraged
    • Preference will be given to projects demonstrating collaboration within BIH
    • Additional consideration will be given to national and international collaborative research initiatives

The final program of the BIH Scientific Symposium 2026 will be shaped based on the contributions received. Given the limited time available, not all talk submissions can be accommodated as oral presentations - some may be presented in poster format.

Abstract submission deadline: June 17, 2026

    Please note:
Colleagues selected for an oral presentation, automatically become a member of the selection committee for the poster prize.

Registration & Submission

Submit your contribution for an active part or simply join the community! A formal registration for a general participation is necessary for organizational reasons regardless of a potential contribution.
