BIH Lecture with Einstein BIH Visiting Fellow Rolf Bodmer
Prof. Bodmer is an Einstein BIH Visiting Fellow since 2016 and is working together with Prof. Rickert-Sperling (Charité Universitätsmedizin – Berlin) on the project “Congenital Heart Disease: expanding the developmental genetic network by utilizing the Drosophila heart to model patient genomic aberrations”. During the lecture he will talk about Drosophila to the rescue in the personalized medicine of congenital heart diseases.
Dr. Bodmer earned his Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Neurobiology from the University of Basel, Switzerland. He first trained as a postdoctoral fellow in Neurobiology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, and then studied Molecular Genetics with Lily and Yuh-Nung Jan at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Bodmer joined the Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute in 2003, where he is Professor, and since 2007 Program Director of the Development, Aging and Regeneration Program. He discovered the first cardiac determinant in the animal kingdom, the tinman gene, and established the Drosophila heart as a research model for cardiac development, function and aging. He has been awarded grants from the National Institutes of Health and the American Heart Association (Established Investigator) amongst others.
