Consensus Process I | Measuring Translation - What Works, What Does Not ?
The first consensus statement will be focused upon “Measuring Translation – What Works, What Does Not?”: how can the value of translational activities be measured in order to convert research discoveries into products that impact human health? Current and commonly used metrics used to assess real world translational success, such as impact factors, publications and patents for academics, and product launch, marketing and publicity for industry no longer fit the complex and multifaceted landscape of translational medicine, i.e., there can be no “one-size fits all” approach. Thus, a framework will be proposed to select principal axes of parameters to optimize for a given context of translation with the invitation to readers to examine and research how to optimize metrics for impact for a given context.
