Nephrologist Duška Dragun was born in Osijek, Croatia, in 1969. After completing her medical studies in Zagreb, she earned her doctorate from Humboldt Universi-tät zu Berlin in 1998. She completed her training in internal medicine with a subspecialty in nephrology at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. She was appointed junior professor in 2002 and became a full professor for nephrology and experi-mental transplantation at Charité in 2007. She was a pioneer of translational research in transplantation and made outstanding contributions in the field of immunogenetics, improving approaches to grafting, preventing cardiovascular comorbidity, and increasing longterm graft survival. She received multiple awards for her research achievements. She also launched the first clinician scientist program at the Berlin Institute of Health and developed and shaped various other research programs. She thus made a significant contribution to enabling the integration of research activities in medical training to shape a new generation of  cli nician scientists. Sadly, Duška Dragun died in 2020, aged just 51.
