BIH Core Unit Research IT
The Core Unit Research IT provides specialized IT services that are essential for medical translation. Key components include the Health Data Platform (HDP) and Charité’s Medical Data Integration Center (MeDIC), which provide healthcare data for secondary use as well as the tools needed to work with these data. The activities are organized in close coordination with Charité’s IT Division to ensure the sustainable and scalable operation of our products and services.
Mission
Our mission is to meet the needs of the scientific community for innovative information technology through a dedicated portfolio of services while fostering an agile and open mindset. At the same time, we ensure that BIH’s core focus on medical translation is clearly reflected and taken into account as part of Charité’s overarching IT strategy. We continuously improve our services from a product-oriented perspective, guided by the needs of our user groups. Our services are therefore also an integral part of numerous research projects.
Service portfolio at glance
The Health Data Platform (HDP) and the Medical Data Integration Center (MeDIC) are central infrastructure and service structures that enable internal and external researchers to securely and compliantly access routine and research data from patients treated at Charité. In particular, the development and expansion of the HDP are key elements of digitalization within Charité’s Strategy 2030 and a central component of BIH’s strategic research program.
The core infrastructure of the HDP, the Health Data Lake (HDL), enables secure and collaborative research using Charité’s health data in accordance with the FAIR principles. The HDL also provides the computing infrastructure for MeDIC services. At the same time, we actively promote a DevOps culture by providing a central software platform.
