About the award

Since excellence in translational research is furthered by gender equality, supporting the equal participation of women and men is an important objective in all BIH undertakings.
The BIH Award for Early-Career Women Scientists in Bioinformatics recognizes the outstanding achievements of women scientists working in the field of bioinformatics and enhances their visibility. Laureates of the award will be inspiring role models for subsequent generations of women working in the field of bioinformatics.
In 2016, the award will be presented for an outstanding dissertation that advanced translational research in the field of bioinformatics. An important criterion in awarding the prize is also the potential of the laureate in a promising career path in bioinformatics.
The prize fund amounts to 10,000 Euro and is intended to support future research of the laurate in the field of bioinformatics.

A commission consisting of members of the BIH bioinformatics steering committee and women professors from the field of bioinformatics will select the winner of the award.
In exceptional cases, the prize may be shared if there is more than one person meriting the award.
