Charité BIH Innovation launches Spin-Off Navigator

Spin-offs from research and clinical practice are more than just an economic move — they are a central component of responsible science. When research findings are transformed into marketable products, they create direct societal value for the benefit of patients. At the same time, starting a company represents a personal transformation for the founders involved: it requires a high level of commitment, careful consideration, and well-informed decisions. This is precisely where the new Spin-off Navigator from Charité BIH Innovation (CBI) comes in — it aims to empower those interested in starting a company by providing targeted knowledge, enabling them to take this step in an informed and self-determined manner.
The Spin-off Navigator is aimed at all Charité and BIH employees who are planning to start a business or are interested in the topic. For the first time, it consolidates all existing regulations from both institutions into a single document and guides those interested in starting a business through all three phases: the idea phase, the startup phase, and the post-startup phase. In doing so, it provides basic knowledge on intellectual property (IP) and its protection, offers an overview of funding opportunities, identifies all relevant stakeholders in the process, and addresses potential areas of conflict early on.
The goal is to provide transparent support from the very first idea to the actual spin-off — and to help create economically viable spin-offs that generate impact from scientific research. Charité BIH Innovation offers professional and reliable support to those interested in starting a business.
Note: The Spin-off Navigator is currently only available in German. An English version will be published soon.
