Trans* Day of Remembrance: Honoring Lives with Courage

This event, organized by Charité and BIH highlights trans identities, rights, and current developments. The program includes talks, discussion, and a workshop.
Join us for a special event to honor the lives lost to anti-trans* violence. We will explore the significance of this day and hear from speakers about trans* identities, rights, and struggles, as well as gain insights into recent news and changes in social and medical aspects and discuss the participation of trans* people in research and studies.
What to Expect:
- Moderator: Fagatha Crispy, hyper-emotional drag femme, will charmingly guide through the program.
- Talks by: Prof. Sofia Forslund (MDC), Dr. Amanita Calderon-Cifuentes (TGEU), Charlotte Krumbholz (Charité), and Michele Haink (Charité).
- Get-together: Following the talks, there will be an opportunity for networking.
Workshop: After the main program, there will be an opportunity to participate in a workshop.
The interactive workshop on November 20 at 4:00 pm, “Beyond Binary Data: Rethinking Sex, Gender, and Biological Differences in Research Design” will last approximately two hours and will feature discussion rounds, input, and group analysis. The workshop will be moderated by Tomer Einav, PhD student and community coordinator at AG Gaebler and Dani Tut Bar, communication manager and psychotherapist.
Course content
Biomedical research has long depended on the binary categories of “male” and “female.” Yet both biology and lived experience tell a more complex story. This workshop invites participants to explore how sex and gender are constructed, measured, and often misunderstood in scientific studies — and how we can move toward more accurate and inclusive research practices. Through interactive discussion and group work, we’ll unpack common misconceptions, analyze real study abstracts, and develop critical perspectives that move beyond outdated binaries. The goal is not only to refine research methods but also to create a culture of curiosity, care, and responsibility toward trans and intersex lives in science.
