The DGN Medical Education Committee under the auspices of the German Society of Nuclear Medicine (DGN) offers an annual “DGN Summer School”, a quite new format for promoting young academics in the field of nuclear medicine held in 2014 for the first time.

The target audience of the DGN Summer School are excellent medical students, medical doctoral students, and young academics during their first years of professional education in (nuclear) medicine, medical physics, and (radio) chemistry who are interested in nuclear medicine and molecular imaging. The goal is to get these persons engaged in nuclear medicine, to integrate them into research activities, and to encourage a long-term career in nuclear medicine and connected fields.

The DGN Summer School will be organised as an international training course in English which will be promoted in Germany as well as internationally. A maximum of 30 participants will actively work on specific themes in lectures, round-table discussions, case studies, and hands-on presentations in order to learn about the different aspects of the respective topic in detail on a profound scientific level. Social events in the evening complement the scientific program encouraging further exchange and stimulating discussions between the participants and their tutors.

The participants will be selected based on their applications (CV, letter of motivation, reference letter of their supervisor). Successful applicants receive a grant for the DGN Summer School covering the expenses for accommodation and food. Nationally and internationally distinguished scientists and experts give the lectures and presentations.
