Dr. Doris Meder is the new Administrative Director of the BIH
On January 1, 2025, the Board of Directors of the Berlin Institute of Health at Charité (BIH) appointed Dr. Doris Meder as Administrative Director. She had previously assumed this role from her predecessor Dr. Michael Frieser on an interim basis since March 1, 2024, in addition to heading the Strategic Science Management division and the BIH Core Facilities.
“Doris Meder is a great choice: she has headed the Strategic Science Management of the BIH division very successfully for many years and therefore knows both, the BIH and Charité, at first hand. At the same time, she can contribute her experience from other renowned international scientific institutions. The BIH and Charité will benefit greatly from the fact, that she will contribute her expertise and commitment with the necessary creative power as Administrative Director. I am very much looking forward to our continued collaboration,” said Prof. Christopher Baum, Chairman of the BIH Board of Directors at Charité and Head of the Translational Research Department at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin.
Dr. Doris Meder is a biochemist who did her doctorate on the mechanisms of cell polarity in epithelial cells and subsequently completed a degree in Business Administration in Zurich. When she joined the BIH in 2017, she already had 12 years of experience in science management at international research institutions. This includes grant management at the University of Zurich and ETH Zurich, positions in technology transfer and scientific coordination at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics in Dresden (MPI-CBG), the establishment and management of the Core Facilities Program of the Centre of Genomics Regulation in Barcelona (2009 - 2013) as well as the management of the Office of the Managing Director at the MPI-CBG and the establishment of the Center for Systems Biology Dresden (2014 - 2016).
