The Entrepreneurship Module for the BIH Charité (Junior) (Digital) Clinician Scientist Program was developed in cooperation with the European School of Management and Technology Berlin (ESMT Berlin) and includes elective modules with more than 50 hours of learning content, spread over 2 months. A balanced mix of learning and application phases as well as experience-based and actionable skills-building insights were taken into account. In addition, access to key insights from top mentors is provided in joint sessions through optional participation in the Creative Destruction Lab Berlin. There is also the opportunity to temporarily join one of the start-ups as a medical consultant.
1. Workshop
Introduction to entrepreneurship: key characteristics and general terminology explained
Context & changing healthcare industry: status quo, chances & challenges in the healthcare industry through the experts’ eyes. This impulse session aims to invite to start thinking about the broader context in which the participants are embedded beyond their daily sphere. It allows to leave the ‘restricted’ sphere of action and invites to open up for personal growth and understanding the bigger picture of the health industry.
Entrepreneurial characteristics: understanding characteristics that are associated with entrepreneurial mindset and exploring own profile
2. Workshop
Introduction to the concept of market pull in the context of deep tech, understanding the customer and how to derive from business idea to value proposition and business model.

Immerse in the experience of evaluating early-stage start-ups and their challenges through multiple perspectives - follow the discussions in an informed way and understand how experts with different backgrounds and interests approach priority setting. At the same time, get an idea of the ‘essence’ of founding teams and how team compositions impact progress & success.

Foundations of High-Performance Teams: understanding “teamwork on the fly” and the underlying concept of “teaming”, exploring “psychological safety” as one of the main preconditions for sustainable high performance in teams (and how to create it), and learning about the 6 main conditions that need to be provided to allow teams to excel at the maximum level possible

Markets for Technology. This session is an additional resource to understand how many successful innovations are not commercialized by the inventor but are sold on the market for technology to another party that further develops the initial idea and ultimately takes it to the market. After a general discussion of the market for technology, you will have a closer look at the product development process in the pharmaceutical industry.

Financing & valuating innovation: Learning to understand ‘financial strategy’ (involving to raise capital, evaluating investment opportunities, etc.) in the context of high-risk innovation and how to read a P&L, how to manage and communicate cash flow, and basics in governance
Investor conversations & negotiations: Prepare for and understanding its purpose, incl.- best practices, do’s & don’ts
Simulation: Establishing & managing partnerships: types of partners / stakeholders and their impact on venture success
Leadership & team management: decision making dynamics and basic leadership principles for managing self and others
Leadership & Entrepreneurship: decision making under uncertainty
