Funding Objective:
The funding aims to further develop life science commercialization ideas, particularly in the areas of "Therapeutics," "Diagnostics," "Platform Technologies," and "Research Tools," from conceptual design through feasibility testing to exploring potential commercialization options.
Target Group:
Scientists who can envision a career outside the traditional academic system, such as in a spin-off or industry.
Requirements:
- The idea originates from a life science research project and shows initial innovation potential.
- A very rough, sketchy commercialization idea.
- Patent applications are not a prerequisite for funding.
Funding Conditions:
The funding measure is divided into two phases:
- Exploration Phase: Here, a potential commercialization idea is developed based on initial scientific findings. The main components are the conception, testing, and evaluation of various commercialization options, as well as the development of a proprietary intellectual property strategy. Individual projects are funded for 12 months with 100,000 euros (plus project allowance).
- Feasibility Phase: After the exploration phase and an initial positive FtO analysis, development work is carried out up to the proof of principle. At the end of this phase, the connection to established funding programs such as VIP+, EXIST research transfer, KMU-innovativ, or GO-Bio should be established. Individual projects are funded for 24 months with 500,000 euros.
Application Submission:
- Exploration Phase: Submission is possible each year by February 15.
- Feasibility Phase: Submission is possible each year by May 15 after the start of the exploration phase (no lateral entry possible).
