MDC-BISMB Guest Lecture: Jacob Schreiber
Guest talk by Jacob Schreiber from the Research Institute of Molecular Pathology (IMP, Vienna)/ UMass Chan Medical School (USA) on the topic: "Understanding and Designing Cis-Regulatory Elements Using Machine Learning". Held within the framework of the DS@MDC Seminar; Jointly organized by Max Delbrück Center and the BIH.
Understanding and Designing Cis-Regulatory Elements Using Machine Learning
Sequence-based machine learning (ML) models are invaluable for studying regulatory genomics. Jacob Schreiber will introduce DragoNNFruit, an ML method for identifying and extracting the continuous regulatory dynamics underlying scATAC-seq and multiome experiments. Furthermore, he will introduce Ledidi, which turns any individual or set of ML model(s) into a designer of sequences with desired characteristics.
The lecture is jointly organized by Prof. Uwe Ohler, Max Delbrück Center and Prof. Martin Kricher, Berlin Institute of Health at Charité (BIH).
About the Speaker
Dr Jacob Schreiber
Jacob is currently a guest scientist at the Research Institute of Molecular Pathology (IMP) in Vienna and an incoming Assistant Professor at UMass Chan Medical School (USA). He has an impressive academic background, having completed his postdoctoral research with Prof. Anshul Kundaje at Stanford University and his PhD under Prof. Bill (William Stafford) Noble at the University of Washington. Jacob is renowned in the bioinformatics community for developing several tools for modeling and analyzing functional genomics data, including tfmodisco-lite, apricot, pomegranate, and avocado. He also hosted the popular podcast "The Bioinformatics Chat" from 2020 to 2021, where he discussed various topics in bioinformatics with experts from around the world. We look forward to welcoming Jacob to Berlin and hearing about his latest research and insights. For more information about Jacob and his work, you can explore his GitHub repositories (https://github.com/jmschrei) and read on his personal website (https://jmschrei.github.io/).
We are pleased to announce that Jacob Schreiber will be visiting the Berlin Institute of Health at Charité (BIH) in January 2025; his visit at the BIH is hosted by Prof. Martin Kircher.
