We first present the most important design decisions made when developing the software. Next, we present a novel approach which extends the basic functionalities of ARX and greatly improves its flexibility in anonymizing medical data. The advantages of this approach are demonstrated by a detailed experimental comparison with related software. Finally, we provide an overview of practical applications of ARX and a discussion of remaining challenges.
