New Projects Start in the BIH Digital Health Accelerator Program

In early September, five new project teams started in the BIH Digital Health Accelerator program at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin to develop scalable healthcare solutions for clinical care and the healthcare market based on their innovative ideas and concepts:
- Schayan Yousefian, Prof. Dr. Simon Haas, BIH: Reference-Guided AI Decision Support for Clinical Flow Cytometry (FlowPilot)
- Dr. Andreas Kurtz, BIH: Regulatory Intelligence for hPSC Cell Therapy Translation (CellTracer)
- Dr. Philipp Portz, Prof. Dr. Nicolas Paul, Charité: Companion Rehabilitation App (CoRehApp)
- Dr. Cosima Prahm, Charité: Personalized Therapy for Phantom Limb Pain in Extended Reality (CALA-XR)
- PD Dr. Carolin Senger, Charité: An AI System to Augment Tumor Boards (OnKIboard).
In the coming months, the teams will focus on needs and concept validation, technical feasibility, regulatory strategy, business model, reimbursement and market access. This work is structured by the BIH DHA “Solution Readiness Level” framework, which guides development and tracks each project’s level of translational maturity across six parallel streams, from clinical need to market access.
The BIH DHA program offers project funding, coaching and mentoring from experts, access to a talent network, and a place in the BIH Digital Labs co-working space near Charité Campus Mitte, for interdisciplinary collaboration and exchange with projects teams from the current and previous cohorts.
Since the start of the BIH DHA program, nearly 70 projects have benefited from these offerings. To date, this has resulted in 15 spin-offs, two licensing agreements, two exits, and a number of regulated medical devices now used in reimbursed routine care in Germany, and internationally through partnerships with hospitals and industry partners.
