Traditionally created as a life sciences journal, eLife has recently embraced the biomedical sciences that transcend from basic biology of human diseases to implementation science and public health.
This crossing of the interdisciplinary spectrum of biomedicine and the clinical sciences has been buttressed by an effort towards extreme rigor and transparency at all stages of review and publication. Our final goal is to have a class of “Refereed Clinical Preprints” that would be freely accessible, enable the accelerated dissemination of scientific and clinical advances, and allow physicians and scientists to publish whenever they are ready.
