Translate! 2016 will focus on the following key topics:

  • Balancing risks and benefits in translational research
  • From reactive to proactive translational medicine
  • Being efficient in advancing translational research
  • Translational medicine successes in global health

Additionally, in five breakout sessions participants are gathered into smaller groups for the purpose of discussing specific topics. This session is particularly important in developing detailed action items for high-priority areas of translational medicine. The focus lies on synthesizing new ideas and presenting a consensus on the second day from the group on how to move forward in various areas.

Motivation

In May 2014, the Berlin-Brandenburg Center for Regenerative Therapies (BCRT), the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, and Science Translational Medicine held the first Translate! event: “Joining Forces for Translational Research in Life Sciences.” The two-day symposium was a highly successful kick-off event that discussed the essentials of translation in life sciences. Translate! 2014 was unique in focusing not only on the latest translational efforts in all fields, but also on the infrastructures, risks, incentives, funding and regulatory issues that affect the transfer of such efforts into the clinic. Findings of the conference were published in a consensus statement and additional publicationsin Science Translational Medicine.

Owing to its success and quality of interaction among all stakeholders in translation, the second Translate! event takes place May 23-24, 2016, in Berlin, Germany.
