The national Translational Tandem Program for Gene- and Cell-based Therapies (nTTP-GCT) is a measure of the National Strategy for Gene- and Cell-based Therapies and is aimed at academic and non-academic research institutions as well as industrial companies based in Germany that nominate tandems by name to apply for participation in the nTTP-GCT.

The tandems – consisting of a Junior Clinician Scientist (JCS; research-active physician with a doctorate during her/his residency) and a Translational Scientist (TS; scientist with a doctorate who works on a medically relevant research project and who is not involved in patient care) – will work together (complementarily) on a translational project in the GCT area and actively participate in GCT competence and network building during the two-year funding period.

For the second call for proposals, which has now been published, the program has been further adapted to the needs of the target group and its institutions:

  • Eligibility criteria adjusted
    • Doctoral theses by TS and JCS at least submitted (proof required)
    • No requirement regarding the duration of the JCS's residency
  • Flexibility regarding the amount of “protected time” for JCS and TS (20-50% each)
  • Possibility to apply for consumables (up to €50,000 per tandem)
  • No requirements regarding IP distribution for tandems from different institutions
  • Cooperation agreement still required if different institutions are involved; new: 6-month extension

Applications must be submitted by Friday, August 22, 2025, at 12 noon. We are offering two consultation hours for applicants to clarify administrative and content-related questions about the call.
