Regeneration Succeeds Through Interplay
Successful endogenous regeneration depends on the coordinated interplay of immune regulation, cellular plasticity, and the extracellular matrix (ECM). Immune signals influence cellular behavior, while the ECM provides biochemical and biomechanical cues that regulate cell function and shape tissue organization. In turn, cells actively shape their environment through the release of soluble factors and ECM remodeling.
The Research Strategy of the BCRT
At the BCRT, we investigate how complex biological processes enable successful healing, why their interplay becomes disrupted, and how they can be therapeutically modulated. By bringing together expertise from different disciplines, we aim to develop a more comprehensive understanding of the body’s natural tissue regeneration processes and the factors that determine their success or failure.
