Extracellular Vesicles as a Next Generation Cardioprotective Agent
Timo Z. Nazari-Shafti
Our junior group is part of the Translational Cardiovascular Regenerative Technologies research group (Emmert Lab) and aims to establish an interdisciplinary platform for extracellular vesicle based next generation advanced therapies for cardioprotection and myocardial regeneration. Extracellular vesicles are a promising component of the secretome of regenerative and cardioprotective cells. Our group will focus on developing sustainable therapeutic concepts based on extracellular vesicles that utilizes their cardioprotective potential to treat cardiovascular disease. Specifically, our main focus areas are:
- Defining and manipulating the pharmacokinetics of extracellular vesicles
- Development of GMP-compatible manufacturing and characterization protocols for clinical grade extracellular vesicles
- Enhancing targeting to injured cardiovascular tissues and cardioprotective properties of extracellular vesicles
