Session 1
Societal and Medical Need: The role of cell- and nucleic acid-based therapies and digitization
In this session, 20 international and national speakers will present short, concise talks on how cell and gene therapy must develop in a societal context. The scientific findings will have their say, as will a patient representative or the issue of the cost of these novel therapies. The digitization of information pathways and the recording of clinical parameters that are also relevant for patients is a prerequisite for the successful implementation of new therapies and will also be addressed.
Chair: Prof. Simone Spuler, Experimental and Clinical Research Center (ECRC), Charité Berlin and MDC for Molecular Medicine

Future Work: The role of shared laboratories and incubators
In this session, the panel will discuss the role and impact of shared laboratories and incubators in establishing strong innovation ecosystems. In recent years, a better understanding of what constitutes an optimal environment for scientific innovators has emerged, especially to facilitate entrepreneurial translation in the medical and biotechnology fields. The best innovation communities provide not just a highly functional laboratory environment, but they also facilitate the creation of strong networks – as captured in the motto of “Reducing Friction & Increasing Collisions” that has been the guiding principle for the LabCentral/Biolabs ecosystems.
The members of the panel are scientists and practitioners of shared innovation and will discuss best practices and experiences – and how these can be applied to help Berlin build a world-class innovation ecosystem.
