In the third BIH Multi-Omics Lecture on 26 November 2020, Michael Taylor, Professor at the Department of Surgery and Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology, University of Toronto, will discuss how metabolism, the epigenome, and development conspire in the malignant transformation of the early human hindbrain.

About the speaker

Michael Taylor studied medicine at the University of Western Ontario, Canada, and carried out his Ph.D. research in the field of molecular genetics of pediatric brain tumors at the University of Toronto.

As a practicing pediatric neurosurgeon and clinician scientist at the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, his research focuses on using tools from human genetics/genomics and from mouse models to better understand the biology of pediatric brain tumors, particularly medulloblastoma and ependymoma. He has described a number of the genetic events that are thought to drive the pathogenesis of medulloblastoma. More recently, his laboratory has developed functional genomic mouse models of medulloblastoma to help better interpret our genomic studies of human medulloblastoma. He is also the creator and principal investigator of the Medulloblastoma Advanced Genomics International Consortium (MAGIC), through >2200 frozen medulloblastomas have been collected from >90 high quality pediatric neuro-oncology centers from around the world.
