Starting her academic career in basic science only to continue with education in medicine, a masters training in epidemiology and doctoral training in human genetics and genetic epidemiology, Teri Manolio holds a position as the Director of the Division of Genomic Medicine in the National Human Genome Research Institute (NIH). Aside from her directorship, she maintains active clinical appointment on the in-patient medical service of Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and is a Professor of Medicine at Uniformed Services University of Health Science.

With focus on genomics, she works to incorporate genomics into every-day medical care to prevent rare, but on occasion fatal complications that occur from common drug treatments. Further, her efforts concentrate on applying genomic technologies
to enhance diagnostic strategies, improve treatments and translate genomic research into effective clinical care.

She led or co-led multiple programs to tackle this problem, to name a few: Electronic Medical Records and
Genomics (eMERGE) Network, Undiagnosed Diseases Network (UDN), Clinical Sequencing Evidence-Generating Research Consortium, Clinical Genome (ClinGen) Resource. She has also served or is currently serving on multiple scientific boards including UK Biobank, European Genome Archive, Berlin Institute of Health, Genome Institute of Singapore.
