Preventing burnout and developing peer support for PIs and groupleaders
Our shared experience during and following the pandemic has brought conversations about wellbeing to the forefront of academic life. At the same time, research leaders are navigating evolving expectations around mentorship, team culture, and sustainable ways of working. While institutional initiatives and wellbeing resources can help reduce work-related stress, lasting impact depends on the everyday leadership practices that shape the research environment.
Supporting others starts with supporting yourself. This interactive workshop equips academic leaders with practical, evidence-informed strategies to recognize and address stress and burnout while fostering resilience and peer support. Through experiential activities, guided reflection, and discussion, participants will learn simple, sustainable practices to enhance their own well-being and create healthier, more supportive academic environments.
This 2-hour workshop will include:
- Understanding the science of stress and burnout in academic settings.
- Practicing brief, evidence-based micro-interventions to improve well-being.
