Gesche Joost

Pushing forward the digital transformation
Gesche Joost has been on the Management Board of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) since 2017 and currently heads the DFKI’s Interactive Textiles Research Department. She served as Germany’s first Internet Ambassador to the European Commission to push forward “digital transformation at the EU level.” Joost sits on the Executive Board of the Berlin-based Einstein Center Digital Future and is a member of various supervisory boards including that of SAP.
Since 2005 she has headed the Design Research Lab, which is run in cooperation with Deutsche Telekom Laboratories. Since 2011 she has been teaching and researching as a professor of design research at the Berlin University of the Arts.
Joost studied design at the International School of Design of TH Köln – University of Applied Sciences and rhetoric at the University of Tübingen, where she received her doctorate in 2007. From 2008 to late 2010 she held a junior professorship in interaction design and media at Technische Universität Berlin.
