Research

The group develops methods for identifying disease risks as early as possible and investigates how such predictions can be used for prevention and early detection. To this end, the group uses electronic health data, medical imaging, and various types of omics data. A particular focus is on developing models that perform reliably across different institutions, datasets, and healthcare systems.

In addition to methodological development, the group investigates when AI-based risk models provide tangible clinical and health-economic benefits. In the long term, these approaches are intended to help target diagnostic and preventive measures more effectively.

Current Research Topics

  • Risk modeling using electronic health data and large language models
  • Health-economic evaluation of AI in prevention programs
  • Foundation models for genetics and medical imaging
  • Early detection of lung cancer
  • Multimodal learning in healthcare
