As a measure of the National Strategy for Gene and Cell-Based Therapies (GCT), the BIH Biomedical Innovation Academy (BIA) has conceptualized and implemented the new funding line “national Translational Tandem Program for Gene and Cell-Based Therapies” (nTTP-GCT).
The aim of the funding line is to develop and expand translational expertise in a targeted manner. The funding is intended to provide clinical and non-clinical scientists time for research (“protected time”). At the same time, the aim is to improve Germany-wide interaction between stakeholders involved in training, career development and research & development, such as academia and industry, and to network the German GCT community more closely.
The pilot call has been online since October 01, 2024 and is aimed at academic and non-academic research institutions as well as industrial companies based in Germany that nominate tandems by name to apply for participation in the nTTP-GCT. The funding is as follows: Tandems - consisting of a Junior Clinician Scientist (JCS; physician in the first three years of specialist training) and a Translational Scientist (TS; scientist working on a medically relevant research project and not involved in patient care) - should work together (complementarily) on a translational project in the GCT area and actively participate in GCT competence and network building. During the two-year funding period, they will receive support with regard to a) their position funding with contractually secured research time (JCS: 20 %; TS: 50 %), b) the financing of project-related travel and c) further training and networking activities.
Applications from tandems from different organizations of origin (e.g. research institutes from different federal states) and/or academy-industry collaborations are particularly welcome.
Applications must be submitted by November 07, 2024. Further calls for proposals are planned.
The BIA offers two online consultation hours to clarify administrative and content-related questions about the call for proposals.
