On 11 September 2024, the Hot Topic Seminar “Virtual Reality in Mental Health”, initiated and moderated by Dr. med. Alva Lütt, fellow of the BIH Charité Junior Digital Clinician Scientist Program, took place at the Paul Gerhardt Stift in Berlin. Prof. Dr. med. Igor M. Sauer, Director of the BIH Charité Digital Clinician Scientist Program, gave an opening speech. Guest speakers from the Samsung Medical Center in Seoul, South Korea, as well as lecturers from the Psychiatric University Hospital Charité at St. Hedwig Hospital and the Digital Surgery Lab Charité gave lectures on topics such as VR biofeedback in affective disorders, VR cue exposure in alcohol addiction, DTx technologies with wearables and embodiment in virtual reality. An additional live broadcast allowed an international audience, of approx. 50 scientists on site and more than 50 online participants from various universities in Berlin and South Korea, to engage in a lively exchange on innovative treatment approaches in the field of mental illness. Further close collaboration between the South Korean and German scientists, e. g. cooperation projects on VR-based technologies  and follow-up events have already been planned.
