Claudia Langenberg receives membership to the Leopoldina

Prof. Dr. Claudia Langenberg, head of the Computational Medicine research group at the Berlin Institute of Health at Charité (BIH) and director of the Precision Healthcare University Research Institute (PHURI) at Queen Mary University of London, has been elected to a membership at the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina for the section Class II for Life Sciences.
Claudia Langenberg is an human geneticist and health scientist whose research at the BIH focuses on metabolic disorders such as obesity, insulin resistance, and type 2 diabetes. Her team analyzes thuman metabolism using large genetic, biological, and “omics” datasets from international patient and population studies. Her goal is to determine how individual genes influence metabolism and which treatment targets promise the greatest benefit to patients. Langenberg is already a member of the Leopoldina’s Obesity Working Group, which is currently drafting a report on the state of this disorder in Germany (including recommendations for its prevention). She has now been appointed to the Section of Physiology and Pharmacology/Toxicology.
As the German National Academy of Sciences, the Leopoldina provides independent science-based policy advice on matters relevant to society. To this end, the Academy develops interdisciplinary statements based on scientific findings. The Leopoldina represents the German scientific community in the international academy dialogue. With around 1,700 members from more than 30 countries, the Leopoldina combines expertise from almost all research areas. Founded in 1652, it was appointed the National Academy of Sciences of Germany in 2008. The Leopoldina is committed to the common good.
