Abstract
The digital health landscape of medical research and clinical care is rapidly evolving and seeing a growing demand for collecting and integrating data from diverse sources and modalities to drive meaningful translational insights. Effective management of these data requires access to data platforms that are secure, reliable, scalable, and extendible. In this talk we describe the capabilities and technologies underlying modern health data platforms and discuss sustainable models for governing, developing and operating these platforms, with a focus on the Charité/BIH Virtual Research Environment.
About Indoc Research
Indoc is a not-for-profit company that helps medical research teams manage, share and analyze their complex data. At BIH and Charité, Indoc is a partner in the implementation and development of the BIH/Charité Virtual Research Environment: A module for the BIH/Charité Health Data Platform to make it easier for researchers to find and securely access data and use it in innovative ways.
About the Speakers
Moyez Dharsee
Moyez Dharsee is Chief Technology Officer at Indoc Research, where he oversees technology strategy, governance, product development and partnerships. Previously, he co-founded a bioinformatics services firm and worked in biotech developing systems for data management and analysis of complex mass spectrometry and proteomics datasets in support of early-stage biomarker research. Moyez made his start in a research setting designing distributed algorithms for biological sequence analysis and protein folding.
Susan Gilbert Evans
Susan Gilbert Evans is Director of Project Management at Indoc Research and oversees project and program management for research data platform operations. Sue also provides strategic and governance support to Indoc’s research and development programs. Prior to working with Indoc Research, Sue held successive positions in pharmaceutical and neuropharmacological research settings and brings over 20 years’ experience in clinical research drug development, contract clinical research, professional consulting, and academic research.
Fan Dong
Fan Dong is Vice President of Systems Development at Indoc, where he leads the development of health informatics platforms and systems that integrate research data from a variety of sources, and designs data intensive system architectures that orchestrate open source software stacks and in-house developed services to support the management of the research data life cycle. Prior to joining Indoc, Fan Dong was Senior Application Developer at the Rotman Research Institute, where he provided high performance computing expertise to solve complex computational tasks for neuroimaging data analysis, and developed a software framework to enable large-scale automated execution of data processing pipelines used by the research institute.
